Cancer Didn’t Kill Me Party
When: Saturday, April 6, 2024 6pm to ???
Where: MoparStyle Racing Shop – Beasley, Texas (40 miles SW of Downtown Houston)

April will have been a year since cancer, a bowel obstruction, Sepsis, Pneumonia and Covid tried to kill me; and 4 months after my Stem Cell Transplant began. I expect to be strong enough to throw this shindig, and possibly strong enough to race in Rockingham the following week.

I’ve gone through many challenges throughout my life, but none bigger than the one I’m in the middle of right now. I feel that beating all these challenges thrown at me is deserving of an epic celebration with my Family, Tier One and Tier Two friends. I’m planning this celebration 5 months in advance so that everyone will have plenty of time to plan.

I’ll rent the appropriate size tent, tables, chairs, and food based on the RSVPs I receive. The temperature at that time of year is generally around 75-85 degrees during the day and 60-70 degrees overnight.

I’ll supply the food, beer, soft drinks, and music – and you’re welcome to BYOB and mixer. There will be a fresh deck of cards on every table and since we’re in the sticks you’re welcome to party as late or leave as early as you want.

For my Drag Racing Friends, you can stop at Xtreme Dragway (3 hours North) on your way down to test and tune your cars. I have a shop, tools and lift available if needed for service or repairs.

I can park up to 15 motorhomes and trailers. I have a filtered water filling station and a dump station. You are welcome to stay the week prior to the celebration and visit Texas. Your dog(s) are welcome to run free on my 5 acres of fenced in property, if they can get along with my free ranging dogs. My dogs get along with all dogs.

If you’re racing in Rockingham, you might want to leave Monday morning and spend the night at Stennis NASA on the Mississippi/Louisiana border. They have about 25 picnic areas in a wooded area (with 24-hour security), each big enough for my 80’ rig and have a free dump station. They’re free and first come first serve – but I’ve always had a choice of spots when I arrive by 7pm. From there, Rockingham is a 12-hour drive – but there are several safe Walmart Super Centers in the West and East suburbs of Atlanta to spend the night and load up on groceries. We usually stop 4 hours from the track and arrive Wednesday.

Houston has two commercial airports, IAH and Hobby. Each is about 75 minutes from my house. There is a private airport in Sugar Land, for those of you with a Lear Jet. That’s about 25 minutes from me.

There are over 40 hotels from 5-star to flea bag within 20 minutes. The nicest and most expensive are in Sugar Land, medium priced are in Richmond, and the cheapest & closest are in Rosenberg.

There are also pretty good deals on large homes for multi-family through Airbnb. This might fit groups of friends wanting to split a house.

Hemi Hideaway is 30 minutes away.
The Houston Museum District, Galveston, NASA Space Center, Kemah Boardwalk are an hour away.
The Alamo, Sea World, Natural Bridge Caverns are 2-2.5 hours away.

But wait there’s More!
I have 2 containers and a shed full of Mopar parts I want to get rid of.

  • 30 pair of Iron heads. $50 sb $75 bb
  • 30 Cast crankshafts $50 sb $75bb
  • 30 Iron intakes $25 sb $35 bb
  • Engine blocks $200-$300
  • Transmissions
  • Tons of race parts

The afternoon of the party I’ll open the doors for those wanting a peek.
And now for the question that has entered the mind of most:
What if you don’t survive the Stem Cell Transplant?
Celebration party turns into a Memorial party – but there will be a party on
that date!

If you’re one of my buds, I sure hope you’ll RSVP and be there. Call our mutual racing buds and arrange a caravan and short vacation in the sun.
Dave
