  • Tire Theory for Super Stock Cars

I'm getting diverse opinions on the question of best tire size the Vitamin C in Super Stock. All from very respected Racers of the Class.

I've heard 28 x 9 is the best size by two, 29 X 9 by one and 30x10.5 Radial by another.

I'm wondering if this is a case of traction .vs weight/rolling resistance?

My situation is that I'm only racing in NMCA, at least to start. No way can I quickly, or maybe ever, get this car to run mid 9s
At one time the car typically ran 10.6s, last I ran it (a few years ago) it was closer to 10.8s. We're about to take it to the track in two weeks and see what we need to do to buy a couple 10ths. I never tried anything to make it faster as it was pretty dead nuts a 11.0 car with proper weight.
I run a Dana with coil over Ladder bars
    I currently have 31X10.5 - with tubes.
I'm prepared to change the gear to what has me crossing the line at 6900-7000

Should I go small tire for weight or big tire for traction to be quicker?

So after speaking with Jerry Hatch a little more today, I see that I misunderstood him. He says that he 14" on the Challenger in Super Stock, a feels the wider the better. The Vitamin C is mini-tubbed, not tubbed, and the 31x10.5W on 10" wheels with 6"BS. They occasionally rub on the inside on sharp turns - so that's the biggest tire.

I wound up ordering Hooser 30x10.5W radials and a pair of Weld Alumina Stars. The price of wheels have sky rocketed and the wait is until January or February.
