  • Going Super Stock Racing With NMCA

After long discussions with Jim Baily and Jerry Hatch, I found out what it takes to convert the Vitamin C to be legal and Competitive in Super Stock Class of NMCA. Will run it as a 426 Max Wedge, which I think is the G Index.

I'm very new to this but have some excellent advice. That said, I'm listening to any advice and opinions fir those with experience.

First, I'm very aware of how fast the 63 Max Wedges are going, and that it's hard to be competitive without spending major money. However, I have three NSS cars, and so the Vitamin C (the most stock and slowest) won't get much action in NSS. I really like the car too much to trade for a proven car.

The car is all metal, glass, and has a stock Max Wedge in it. It does have ladder bars, which can easily be changed over to leaf springs for Stock, but it is also mini-tubbed - so Stock is out.

    Immediate plans are to buy:
    • Program's with Clean Neutral
    • Clean neutral shifter plates for my PPP Shifter
    • New ATI convertor built specifically for that car with trans-brake
    • 28X9 slicks
    • 26" Front Tires
    • Proper gear for tire change
    • Engine Freshen Up
    • Proper Carbs
    • Lighter Wheels?
    • Lighten the car some
    • Disc Brakes in back
I'm listening to all opinions and suggestions.

      In super stock
any size tire up to a 14x32 is okay
      so 10.5x31 is fine
63’ max wedge car is a SS/EA car in most cases
must be a steel or aluminum hood, steel bumpers, factory hood latches
must have factory door panels and functional windows
      factory dashboard
      factory glass
carbs must have factory choke plates and all linkage.
will have to be Carters, no Ebrocks.
      426 block, max .070 overbore
286 heads maybe 518 heads will pass as well
      no vacuum pump
Might be better to run it in which ever GT Class it falls in
      pops

Ok, the Vitamin C fits all of that, except the carburetors.

Also, were there more than on version on the 426 in 63?
My car is pretty heavy, especially with me. Is there more than one index based on weight? I want to say that right now, its 3570 with me.
Is a GT Class the one with old cars and New motors or new cars and old motors?

63’ cars had (2) versions of the 426 max wedge.
          option (1) 11-1 compression
          option (2) 13.5-1 compression
first option is a natural F or G
second option is a E class
You want to work on getting as close as possible on minimum weight and get to at least 50/50
          working suspension is big factor
Different thought on motor such as ability to run at a high rpm another key
          60’ time a big foctor

I'm the low compression Max Wedge, and very heavy, so I'll go down and Index. I need to find a clean dent-free hood, as I can't have a scoop. I'm told that Edelbrock AFB is an approved option for Super Stock - but same CFM and retains choke hardware.

I have no plans (currently) to run NHRA. I ordered new 30" 10.5w radials and wheels. The engine is admittedly underpowered but was freshened less than 50 passes ago. Going to focus on what I can do to make it faster for next year, while having a SS motor built for 2024. Staying with 727 trans for 2023, but intend to have a Protrans, convertor shifter change for 2024. The supply chain sucks so bad it will take all year to get shit. Ordering Aerospace rear brakes to replace the heavy drums on the Dana. Might consider replacing ladder bars for a 4-link for 2024.

Basically, I just want to get my feet wet in NMCA for 2023, and learn for 2024.

Sounds like a great plan. We wanted a second car for a few other Series. That’s why we got the wagon for
NHRA, NMCA and the Buckeye STK/SS series..

Welcome to SS! It will be nice having another Mopar in the class.
